Slokas on Sri Devi and Sri Vaishnavism

One of the best sites on the Web for slokas on Devi and Sri Vaishnavism, in general, is www.prapatti.com. The site hosts most of the famous slokas and Stutis for Goddess Lakshmi such as Sri Suktham, Durga Suktham etc as well as Vishnu Sahasranamam and an excellent compilation of stutis and slokas from Sri Vaishnavism. These slokas are available in multiple languages, in PDF format, and also in the form of MP3 audio recordings. Another reason we are able to endorse this site wholeheartedly is that it contains NO commercial advertisements - perfectly suiting the charter requirements of the Temple's website.

Slokas on other Deities

We have not been able to find a similar complement for Saivite deities in one location, devoid of the distractions and headaches of commercial advertisements. sanskrit.gde.to is a good site with several Veda ghoshas in Sanskrit - including Sri Rudram, Chamakam and the Pancha Sookthas. www.vedamantram.com is another such site.

There are several popular books that contain most of the slokas we chant at the Temple:

+ Mantra Pushpam Sanskrit from Sri Ramakrishna Mutt is an eternal classic - its pocket book size edition is always sold out.

+ R S Vadhyar & Sons is a famous publisher of sloka books in various languages -    esp Sanskrit, Malayalam, and Tamil. Giri Traders from Madras is a bookstore that    is renowed the world over for their sale of religious books and tapes. They have a    branch in Matunga, Bombay - and also publish some of the books themselves.

+ In the US, the Sri Lakshmi Temple has a small book store. If more patrons encourage    the store, we can order and stock more books.  Arsh Vidya Gurukulam in Saylorsburg,    PA has an excellent, comprehensive bookstore.

wikipedia.org also has several contributions on Hinduism, and possibly slokas too.

If you know of any more sites that hosts slokas and mantras on Hinduism, please let us know through an email to FD_Nehti@yahoo.com - with the title "Sloka Site". The most important caveat is that the site must NOT have any commercialism - not even an Agarbathi advertisement. It must be purely dedicated to providing just the slokas and mantras without any other fanfare. The site must also not contain scanned images of books - we do not want to inadvertently support plagiarism and affect the livelihoods of booksellers and publishers who are dedicated to this noble cause. The site must be built from ground-up - using transliteration tools to generate the slokas in various languages.

It is a fond hope of the founding members of CIM to provide such a cohesive complement to www.prapatti.com from the Temple's website itself. If you are interested in leading and/or participating in such an effort, please feel free to contact me at ram_kumar_krishnan@yahoo.com. Given the 100s of popular slokas and mantras written on the various Saivite deities and Devi - at first glance, it appears to be a daunting task. But Sri Sundar Kidambi and Sri Rajagopalan (the main authors of www.prapatti.com) have demonstrated that all it takes is a few singularly dedicated, organized, and selfless devotees in their mold to make it happen over a period of time. This is a golden opportunity for you to help the Temple, and all of Hinduism in general. Thank you.
